Learn German Noun Genders - What, Why, How?

1. Easy German (Beginner - Advanced)

Easy German is a fantastic source of compelling comprehensible input to aid you in your German learning journey. Easy German is a YouTube channel that produces videos on a wide variety of subjects ranging from common foods and household items to the political opinions of native Germans.

They produce videos not only for complete beginners by using simple phrases such as “Was ist das?” ; “Das is ein Auto”, but also for intermediate and advanced learners with podcasts and interviews that dive into a vast range of different topics and themes. There are also a large number of videos covering German grammar, tips for remembering noun genders, and frequently occurring German idioms and slang words (Umgangssprache).

There are 13 episodes that follow the adventures of two German girls, their absurd German neighbor, and an American who shows up at their apartment with a horrific grasp of the German language that will make you appreciate the progress you have made since you started learning German. 3. Learn German Online (Beginner - Intermediate)

This YouTube channel is a wonderful source of free beginner to intermediate level audio books. One glance at the homepage will show you a large selection of Hörbücher mostly around the A1, A2, and B1 level.

Most of the audio-books have a transcript as well, so you can simply listen to the stories, or you can follow along by listening and reading at the same time. In addition, this channel has a number of recordings from official Goethe Exams ranging all the way from the A1 to the C2 level. If you are considering taking one of these exams, this is a good way to get used to the format of the exam and to experience common questions that you might be asked at the various levels.

4. Deutsch lernen (A1-B1) | HARRY – GEFANGEN IN DER ZEIT

Follow the hilarious story of Harry, an extremely grumpy Brit who gets stuck in a time loop in Germany. Improve your Deutsch alongside Harry, who must relive the same day over and over while improving his German to finally free himself from an eternity of repetition.

The show starts off mostly in English and slowly shifts into German as Harry picks up the skills necessary to survive each day. There are about 100 short episodes, with the first third roughly at an A1 level, the next third at A2, and the final third at B1. If you are an absolute beginner, then you can start at episode one, but if you have been learning German for some time now, then you probably want to skip ahead a bit.

Terra X (Intermediate - Advanced)

Covering a variety of historical topics ranging from ancient war secrets to legendary hidden treasure, Terra X provides a quick snippet of history in every video. These short documentaries are a great way to begin exploring authentic content without committing hours to full length material. Be warned though because although the topics are relatively simple, the narrator speaks quickly and there are no “pre-made” subtitles, making this a tough one to understand for beginners.
