Learn alongside Mark as he is taught German from scratch by native German speakers. Coffee Break starts with the basics and slowly builds up your skills by introducing you to new vocabulary, grammar rules, and fun cultural aspects of Deutschland.
Once your skills have been sufficiently honed, Coffee Break puts forth some common scenarios that you might run into while traveling in Germany, such as a visit to the Doctor or a conversation with the front desk of your hotel. Narrated by Annik Rubens in slowly spoken German, these podcasts are a fantastic way to learn more about German culture, news, and daily life while improving your language skills along the way. Each short podcast covers themes ranging from traditional German Biergartens and fairy tales to the stock market and DAX.
The best part is that every episode comes with a transcript, allowing you to read along and look up words you may not understand. She speaks clearly, slowly, and uses relatively simple German words to explain more complicated topics, so you are learning things about Germany in the German language! Wunderbar!

Sometimes you want to shut your brain off and have passive repetition do its job. If that’s the case, then this audio trainer by DW might be for you! Each brief episode covers a topic such as “in the airport” or “questions in the past tense”.
It is super straightforward: A sentence is spoken in English and then translated into German by two native speakers. This “construction” is then repeated multiple times with different verbs, adjectives, and nouns. Although it’s pretty basic, I probably wouldn’t start here as an absolute beginner because it’s pure repetition with no explanations.
Come back to this one after you have built a small vocabulary, and then use it to improve your pronunciation and review common patterns and sentence structures during your down time.
