It's very useful to have a good understanding of both noun genders and plurals in this category. If you end up needing to visit a doctor in Germany (hopefully not!), then you probably want to be able to give an accurate description of where you are experiencing pain. Unlike with rooms and family members, the gender assignments here are seemingly random and must be learned "auswendig" (by heart).
